Twila Mae Guengerich

Twila Guengerich, aged 87 from Yucaipa, went to her eternal reward on August 9, 2013. She grew up near Wellman Iowa with her parents Noah and Ester Guengerich and her brother Robert Guengerich who survives her. She is also survived by her nephew Brent Guengerich from Grass Valley, California and her niece Michelle Cabbell with her husband Samson and their children Joei and Simon of Ontario, California.

At age 19, Twila moved to Upland, California along with her family. She ran the Upland General Telephone payment office before deciding to become a lab technician. She received her training in La Junta, Colorado, and then went on to graduate from Upland College in 1956. She started working for Dr. Bassinger, running his laboratory in San Bernardino. She loved the mountains and moved to Running Springs, California until her retirement.

In mid-life, Twila decided to pursue a career as a teacher. She taught upper grades at Mountain View Christian School in San Bernardino. She loved her students and made it a point to attend at least one of their outside functions during the school year. Her students loved her, and to this day still send cards and pictures with their families as do their parents.

Twila was always a fun person to be around with lots of friends. She had a mind set to always learn new things and explore new adventures. She was an avid reader all of her life. She loved sports and lettered in basketball all four years in college, joined the bowling leagues and played softball in the granny league.

She also enjoyed the great outdoors and camping, belonging to the Escapes Camper Club. After retiring, she along with her friend, Edie Delong, toured all of the states in this beautiful country of ours, sometimes taking back roads and talking with the people.

Due to health problems, she spent the last 16 years of her life at Braswell's Hampton Manor in Yucaipa with the staff being her adopted family. Through numerous trips to the hospital and surgeries, she never gave up hope, leaving an example for us to follow.
