Wallace (Wally) Waters passed away at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, California on May 14, 2016 at the age of 94. Wally was born in Ontario, California, 3 months after his parents, Wallace & Ethel Waters arrived from Oklahoma. He learned early in life that hard work did not hurt anyone, so, with his brothers, he helped his father start Waters & Sons Nursery. He also delivered papers for The Daily Report on bike, then by car for his growing 50-mile paper route. He attended South Euclid Grade School, Ontario Jr. High, Chaffey High School (class of 40) and Chaffey College. In his junior year at Chaffey High, he met the love of his life, Doris Merchant. They married on June 21, 1942 (almost 74 yrs ago). Wally was in the Air Force during WWII, and was stationed in the Philippines. He was an active member of the Upland Nazarene Church, where he was an enthusiastic volunteer, worker, cook, Sunday school teacher, builder, prayer warrior, and is now resting in the arms of Jesus. He loved the adventure of travel throughout the US and Europe…usually taking the road less traveled.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Ethel Waters; his brother, Harold Waters, four sisters, Dorotha Balding, Alta Fearn, Georgia Smith and Mildred Thornton. Wally is survived by his youngest brother, Marion “Bud” Waters, Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sons, Wally Waters and his wife Sally, olivia, NC, Rob Waters and his friend Robert Alpaugh, Tucson, Arizona; three grandsons, Todd (Donna) Waters, Timothy (Kristina) Waters, Michael Waters; and eight great-grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, Josh, Brooke, Elena, Nathan, Riley and Kyler Waters.
The world has significantly dimmed with the loss of this good man. Wally will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be held at Draper Mortuary, 811 N. Mountain Avenue, Ontario, California on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the 1st Church of the Nazarene, 1311 W. 5th Street, Ontario, California at 11:30 am.
