Zigmund Joseph Burak, 89, of Rancho Cucamonga passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 28, 2015. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Doris, of 64 years, who preceded him in death on March 17, 2015. He has two sisters; Mary Vollmer of Franklin, WI and Sally Zimmerman of Las Vegas, NV. Five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. He leaves three children; Sandra Anderson, Jeffrey Burak and Lisa Celano, six grandchildren; Austin, Ashley, Adam, Bria, Scott and Sydney. He lived a long and healthy life, loved sports, especially baseball and fishing. He also loved old westerns, and lotto scratchers, but most of all he loved his family. In his younger years he played the accordion, loved polka’s and dancing with his wife, Doris. In 1960, they would sell their house in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and move to California so they could escape the snowy winters and “wear straw hats in the wintertime.” Zig was a proud Marine, serving in the South Pacific in the mid 1940s. In 1986 he retired from General Dynamics where he was an electronic technician. He lived in the Inland Empire for 55 years. He was from the “greatest generation” who persevered through the Great Depression and WWII; a generation defined and united by duty, honor, courage, service and love of family and country. He will be missed. A remembrance and celebration of his life will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Draper Mortuary on Ontario. A reception will follow the service. The family invites all to attend the Graveside Committal Service with military honors later the same day at Riverside National Cemetery at 2:15 PM. His ashes will be buried next to his deceased wife, Doris, as they are now together forever. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that a donation be made in his name to your favorite charity.
