Charles “Charlie” Edward Adams., age 84, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026. He was born December 9, 1941, in Martin County, Kentucky, to the late Earnest P. and Ethel M. (Crisp) Adams.
He moved to Ohio at an early age and attended the Mansfield City School system. He joined the Navy in 1960 and attended boot camp in Great Lake, Illinois and was proud to serve his country aboard the USS Bordelon DD881. He then went to work at Empire Detroit Steel in April 1964 and after 38 years, retired in April 2003.
Charlie, a beloved friend and family member, was known for his warm heart, generous spirit, and love of simple pleasures. He found joy in the gentle rhythm of fishing and the soulful harmonies of Gospel Bluegrass music, which brought him comfort and peace throughout his life.
An avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes, Charlie treasured watching the games with his family, cheering together through every season. He had a deep love for his animals and cared for them with devotion.
Charlie’s front yard under the tree was one of his favorite places — a gathering spot where neighbors became friends and visits turned into laughter and connection. His welcoming presence and kind conversation made everyone feel at home.
He was a man of few words, but had a big heart. His personality was a quiet strength, a simple loving man, who had a strong commitment to his family and friends. He also had a determination for the things he believed in, one of those to stay in his home for 57 years, until he wasn’t able to.
Charlie is survived by his children, Chris Adams, Ebony (Garrett) Olar-Hoenig, and Shani (Bryan) Thompson; grandchildren, Dusty Breedlove, Nakoma Breedlove, Brailyn (Eric) Ellis, Nova Thompson, and Quinleigh Hoenig; great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Layton, Vallen, and Solomon Ellis; and many cherished family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Adams; and his siblings, Dixie Stamper, Chester Adams, and Earl Adams.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
