John lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, to his country, and to those he knew. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for more than 30 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant and completing two tours in Vietnam. His military service was a source of great pride, reflecting his courage, discipline, and unwavering sense of duty.
After retiring from the Marines, John continued his lifelong calling to help others. He earned a master’s degree from The Ohio State University and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, offering compassion, understanding, and guidance to those who needed it most. His work touched countless lives, often in quiet ways known only to him and those he helped.
For the past 13 years, John called Las Vegas home. There, he found joy in the simple pleasures—tending his garden, preserving what he grew through canning, and spending time with his loyal companion, his beloved dog, Parker. These everyday joys brought him contentment and comfort.
John was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of more than 50 years, Donna M. Tackett (Hartley). Their bond was enduring and profound, a love that remained constant through life’s many seasons.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Tackett, and daughter-in-law, Sue Kwentus, both of Las Vegas. Along with a brother, several sisters, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and others who will forever cherish his memory.
John’s legacy is one of service, compassion, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, always carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
