Roger Dale Smith, 76, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on August 2, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on August 26, 1948, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Roger was the son of Lawrence and Francis (Brock) Smith. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High, where he met the love of his life, Phyllis Jean King.
Roger and Phyllis shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage, raising two daughters together and building a life centered on love, family, and simple joys. Roger was a dedicated employee at PPG, where he worked as a line operator for 40 years.
A man of steady passions, Roger loved all forms of racing—especially NASCAR—and enjoyed taking drives in his Jeep. He found contentment in the little things and lived his life with quiet strength and devotion to those he loved.
Roger was preceded in death by his beloved wife Phyllis and his parents. He is survived by his daughters Terrie Capra (Tom) and Tammy Wentz (Jim); his grandchildren Tyler Capra, Kristy Campbell (Adam), and Cole Wentz (Kaylee); his great-grandchildren Chase, Carter, and Cody Campbell; and his brother Mike Smith.
Honoring Roger’s wishes, no formal services will be held, as he preferred a quiet farewell in lieu of ceremony. He will be laid to rest at Mansfield Memorial Park.
