On September 21, 1939 Geraldine was born to Madie Clara and Ira Aaron Hayes in Huntsville, Alabama. Hard times and difficult circumstances never diminished the love and commitment Geraldine had for her parents. These hard times did give her a sense of determination and a drive to succeed and achieve great accomplishments in her life.
Myles G. Hummel became her step-father in Geraldine's preteen years and they shared a very special bond. Geraldine always worked hard to succeed and be the best she could be in whatever endeavor she pursued.
She graduated from Osceola High School with honors and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Baptist Bible College and College of the Ozarks with degrees in education. She went on to earn a double master’s degree from Nova University in specialized learning fields targeting both gifted and special needs learning for elementary students.
Geraldine spent over thirty years in the field of education with over twenty of those teaching third grade at Trinity Christian Academy.
As much as Geraldine loved learning and valued education, her love for God's four legged and winged creatures surpassed her love of teaching. There was never a puppy, kitten, bird, hamster, or even the occasional raccoon that would go hungry if Geraldine was able to put food out. Her home became a sanctuary for more animals than are in some zoos. Geraldine was often heard to say, "I like most animals more than I like most people."
Geraldine loved life teaching, caring, and giving in a way that was truly her own. She is survived by one son, Robert, daughter- in-law, Florence, one grandson, Michael, his wife, Cynthia, great grandchild, Debbie, and one on the way.
Geraldine will be remembered by all who's lives she touched as a gracious, passionate, and caring Southern lady.
