Mary Louise DeWeese, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and compassionate friend, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, in Sugar Land, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old.
Born on August 14, 1932, in Washington Court House, Ohio, Mary attended Bloomingburg High School. She dedicated many years of her life to caring for others as a Nurse's Aide at Court House Manor, a profession that perfectly suited her kind and nurturing spirit.
Mary was a faithful member of Open Bible Baptist Church in Orange City, Florida, where she shared her musical talents by playing both the piano and organ. Outside of her church activities, she found joy in playing cards with her friends and, as a true animal lover, she often cared for the stray animals in her neighborhood, offering them comfort and a safe haven. Mary's commitment to her community extended to her volunteer work; she and her husband were actively involved in several local churches. She also had a passion for collecting, amassing an impressive collection of porcelain dolls and beautiful porcelain bells, which she lovingly gifted to her grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Pierce, with whom she shared 16 years of marriage, and her second husband, George DeWeese, with whom she shared 39 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Goldie Cornell and Charles Lewis; her sons, Gary Pierce and Joe Pierce; and her sisters, Dorothy, Bessie, Helen, Josephine, and Shirley Lewis; and her brother, Harry Lewis.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Bongiovanni, and her husband Peter; her daughter-in-law, Lorri Pierce; her grandchildren, Stephanie Rodenberg-Lewis and her husband Karl Lewis, Brittany Finney and her husband Blake Finney, Clint Pierce, and Taylor Pierce; and her great-grandchildren, Peter Rodenberg, Keith Lewis, and Shea Lewis.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and church family who provided love and support to Mary throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family has chosen the West Volusia Humane Society for memorial contributions.
A gathering of family and friends for Mary will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, Florida 32763, followed by a memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
