Barbara was a lifelong resident of Lunenburg, Massachusetts before moving to Fleming Island, Florida in the summer of 2017. Barbara was the daughter of Charles and Ardvale (Collins) Hitchcock, born on September 18, 1948 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She was a 1966 graduate of Lunenburg High School.
Barbara became a mother in 1973 when her first daughter was born, and had her second daughter the following year. Barbara was a very hard worker and held several jobs in her lifetime including Parts Rebuilders, West Wind Associates, Sterilite and Earth Shoes. Though the job she was best at was being a grandmother. Barbara became a Mimi in 2000 when her first granddaughter was born, later followed by a grandson and two more granddaughters. She was very involved in all of their lives and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Once moving to her new home in Fleming Island, Barbara went on many adventures with her husband Jim. Barbara and Jim married on February 15, 2020, surrounded by both their friends and family on a beautiful sunny day. Barbara lived the last few years of her life with a permanent smile on her face and with endless laughter. Some of her hobbies included knitting, reading, watching New England sports teams and baking. Her family's favorites were her brownies and blueberry squares. Barbara was also an animal lover having many cats and dogs.
Barbara is survived by her husband James Cox of Fleming Island, FL, daughter Kimberley (Ackerson) Adams of Baldwinville, MA, daughter Lisa (Ackerson) Gamberdella and husband Carl of Townsend, MA and her grandchildren, Olivia Hayes, Eric Hayes, Elizabeth Adams and Charlotte Adams. She will be missed by her family and all who loved her.
