

David Carl Wright age 91 of Orange Park, Florida passed away on July 3, 2012 after a long illness. He was born in Baldwinsville, NY on March 17, 1921 to the former Ruth Estey/Woodford and Carl Cornell Wright. After his father died in 1927 he and his mother, moved to Syracuse. A nearby airfield inspired his love of flying. He joined the Navy in 1942 and later served as a pilot in the USMC in the Marshall Islands. After a stint as a ferry squadron pilot after the war, he traveled back to NY and attended Clarkson College, at Potsdam. There he met Retha Baker and they were married in January of 1949. After graduating in Mechanical Engineering, he took a job with Boeing. He and his young family moved to Seattle, & later Huntsville, Alabama, where he worked on the Apollo Saturn V booster and other Boeing projects of the 1960s. In retirement he worked with Habitat for Humanity, and literacy programs for inmates and others. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Retha and son Michael Lynn Wright. He is survived by sons, Stephen David Wright of Columbia, SC; Kevin James Wright (Carol) of Orange Park; Lance Carl Wright of Huntsville, AL; and Scott David Wright (Elle) of Andalusia, AL; and dear friend and caretaker Jennifer Jones of Orange Park.
