In loving memory of Gerald (Jerry) Gardner, a cherished resident of Orange Park, Florida, who peacefully passed away on January 8, 2024, at the age of 91, at home surrounded by his devoted family. Jerry, born on September 30, 1932, in Albion, Nebraska, was the youngest of seven children to Earl and Theresa Gardner.
His early years were shaped in Shenandoah, Iowa, where he proudly graduated with the class of 1950, holding his classmates in high esteem. In high school, Jerry crossed paths with the love of his life, Dolores Ellen Nelson. After graduation, he joined the Navy, and in 1951, they embarked on a lifelong journey together, and were married 72 years.
Jerry, a true patriot who dedicated 27 years of his life in service to his country, exemplified steadfast commitment, proudly serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His courage, resilience, and love for his homeland was inspiring.
After his distinguished military career, he transitioned seamlessly into civilian life, as the administrator of several nursing homes.
A man of remarkable strength and unwavering integrity, Jerry not only served his country with honor but also built a beautiful family with Dee—blessed with four children, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Jerry’s legacy extends beyond the love he shared within his family; he leaves behind treasured memories and a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory live on in the hearts of those who loved him
