
After a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, Rev. Dr. Gordon N. Craig, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on February 6, 2016. He was born in Abington, PA, but lived most of his life in Florida. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII, driving landing craft. He participated in many operations in the South Pacific, earning numerous medals and commendations. After the war he attended the University of Miami where he met his beloved wife, Lois Meyer. He continued his education, and at age 32 he graduated from Crozer Theological Seminary in PA and became an ordained Methodist minister. During his long career he was pastor of nine Methodist churches throughout the state of Florida, as well as serving on the Bishop's staff. His love of learning never ceased, and he continued his studies at numerous universities around the world. He attended Vatican II in Rome, where he had an audience with Pope Paul. In 1976 he received his Doctorate of Ministry degree from Drew University in New Jersey. Rev. Craig loved helping people and serving the community. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois M. Craig of Jacksonville, his son Paul Craig also of Jacksonville, his daughter Carol Vincent and husband David of Meriden, CT, his brother Joseph B. Craig of Jacksonville, as well as three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A memorial service and burial will take place in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden, CT.
