I was sorry to read of Harry’s death. He was a dear friend to my husband Norman Fetzer (deceased)


Affectionately known as Grumps, my Father-In-Law.  He will always be remembered fondly as Dale, Wayne and Ray's Father.

I am not sure when we all started calling Harry Grumps.  But that is the only name his Grandchildren:  Jason, Zach, Wyatt and Kimberly, and his Great Grandson:  Jayden, knew him as.

I am not certain why Harry obtained that name as he was always patient and kind with his Grandchildren and Great Grandson.  Perhaps he enjoyed being called Grumps as it denotes a certain sense of commanding respect.  After all he was a Commander in the Navy!

I will remember the wonderful afternoons we had with Grumps.  Many a weekend we spent fishing, boating and having dinners together at his home.  One of our last family get togethers was meeting up with Grumps and Darlene at Pengree's Restaurant  so that Grumps could have more time with Jason, Brianna and Jayden who had come from Seattle to visit.  

Grumps will be missed!

We count Harry and Darlene among the small group of people whom we consider to be close and dear friends.  They are the kind of friends who would do anything for us if we needed them, whether it was feeding our pets if we were out of town, or even helping us with yard work.  We often went out to eat together and, at times, we were even traveling companions.  We remember fondly a trip we took to the Navel Air Museum in Pensacola. Harry had been an instructor pilot in the Navy and he knew something about every airplane in the museum.  It was a fascinating trip.   
We will miss Harry and we mourn his loss, but we are grateful for the memories we have of our friendship.  We are also grateful to continue to have Darlene as a close friend, and we will always remember how she loved and cared for Harry.

Mr. Walker, you will be missed by many. I enjoyed talking with you over the years. Love and prayers.

When Darlene met and married you Harry she got the best. We are truly heartbroken that you are gone from us our friend, but you will always remain strong in our memory. 
 God sees every tear shed for you and hears all the prayers that were whispered for you.  He comforts us in our pain and heartache. 
May you rest in peace our friend.  We know God himself is with you now and always.

Harry was like a father to me . I was the daughter they did not have Me and Ray got married in there back yard .We spent a lot of time their catching shrimp off the dock ,water skiing and just slitting on the dock drinking beer .I will miss him dearly. Thank you for all you did for me.

I am writing this about my father Harry William Walker, at his passing at the age of 90 years.
He has been my father for over 67 years now.  

I have many memories of him, my mother Elizabeth Florence France Walker, and my two brothers Dale and Raymond (Ray) Alan Walker who have passed before me.  I knew his mother and father, Mary Jane Taylor and William Henry Walker and even had the privilege to meet my great grandmother, Margaret Alice Mcnanemy from his mother’s side of the family. 

I have most fond memories at this time.  My father was always a very disciplined and dedicated man.  Perhaps it was part of his upbringing, as he was truly one from the “Greatest Generation”.  He was dedicated to his country, serving in the U.S. Navy for twenty three years, as well as to his family and friends.  He rarely showed his feelings or expressed his emotions very well, as if perhaps it would expose his vulnerability, but I know how he deeply loved his family and friends and country.  Perhaps this is where his nickname of “Grumps” as he is known by his grandchildren comes from?  Yet through hard times and good, he was always there for us.  Not always agreeing with what we said or did, or how we felt, but I always knew he would be there for us. 

He was not openly a religious man, but I know he believed in the Lord.  He set an example in the way he lived his life and showed his true faith in ways that exceed words.  I am comforted believing and knowing that he passes to another life before God and will be judged on his merits.  And I am confident his merits will earn him a place next to our Father in Heaven. 

I am comforted by family and friends, who have reached out to me with their kindness and support,
as I am by Pastor Jon and our church family at the Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church, for their thoughts and prayers.  

If I have any regrets it is only that I had not shared with him the love I knew and felt for him. 
I truly did love him… I always have and always will.

Farewell to our wonderful neighbor and friend.  We miss you so much already. 

Once, after a large storm, Grumps showed up at our house unannounced.  This came as a surprise to us primarily because his truck wasn't in the driveway and he was soaking wet. After some initial concern that something terrible had happened, we established that he had simply arrived via boat: part of his dock had floated away in the flood and he was recruiting help to look for it.

My fondest memories of my grandfather are of that dock and his amazing backyard looking out over the sleepy Doctors Lake. I caught my first fish there, learned to water ski there, and played with my cousins there. In poor weather - or when the mosquitos became too much - us young folk would head inside, and watch "old-timey" VHS cartoons in the den: I remember there being quite a lot of Popeye tapes, a character that remains intermingled in my mind with that of my grandfather. Or we'd try to hang out with the adults on the veranda, who - in a haze of smoke and drinks - would shoo us away with the timeless refrain "to go play outside".

Those were the golden years of my childhood and while it has been several decades since, they remain wonderful memories.

Harry is preceded in death by his son’s Dale and Ray Walker. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Walker of Orange Park, FL; son Wayne (Cheryl) Walker. Daughter-in-laws Emily Walker and Julie Walker. Grandchildren: Jason (Brianna) Walker, Chris Walker, Zachery Walker, Wyatt Walker and Kimberly Walker. Great Grandson: Jayden Walker. Harry enjoyed the family dogs Lucky Star and Bingo (deceased) and Lea, Cooper, and Jessie.
