Sophia Bonvicino Attanasio was born on August 28, 1922 in New York City. The only daughter of Italian immigrants. She attended Morris High School in New York City and eventually became the supervising administrator, Department of Radiology, at Jacobi Municipal Hospital located in The Bronx, New York City, where she was employed for 23 years.
Sophia in her early years was noted for her gift with the violin and play acting.
Upon her retirement, she and her husband Pat moved to Hollywood, Florida and subsequently to Boca Raton. Here she found a new venture. Sophia taught religious instruction and prepared 2nd graders for their receiving of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School. She taught here for six years before retiring in full.
Pat Attanasio passed on in 2003 after 63 years of marriage. Pat served with the US Army Engineers for 2 ½ years in the south Pacific during WW II. During this period Sophia was employed by the U.S. Postal Service.
Sophia is survived by her two sons: Tony (USMC), (Roxanne) of Fleming Island and Jerry (Diane) of Boca Raton.
Sophia has nine grand children: Tina Marie Triano, Anthony Robert Attanasio (USAF), Traci Anne Woodward, Christopher Attanasio (USN), Tricia Ljuljic, Michael Attanasio and Christopher Constantine Attanasio (NROTC/USMC)
Sophia has 15 great grand children: Richard Jordan, Kelli Jean Jordan (USA), Daniel Jordan (USN-Active), Marianne Triano, Austin Campbell, Noah Campbell, Anthony Joseph Attanasio, Elizabeth Attanasio, Anthony Christopher Attanasio, Giovanni Paolo Attanasio, Nicholas Peter Ljuljic, Nicole Lynn Ljuljic, Charlotte Goode, Heather Goode and Sophia’s youngest : Alexander Charles Woodward.
Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Saturday, July 20, 2013 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL. Funeral Mass will be held 9:30 AM, Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Boca Raton, FL. Burial to follow in Hollywood Memorial Park, Hollywood, FL.
