Michael Estrada went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the age of 70 years old. He was born on June 25, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Michael and Lucy Estrada. Michael was the oldest of four children: Gloria, the late Edward and Steven.
After graduating high school, Michael enlisted as an active member in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War with many close friends. He later enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and during this time served in “Desert Storm”. He was proud of his service to our country, and on any given day you could catch him wearing his Desert Storm Veteran hat.
After serving active duty in the military, Michael married his beloved Maria Estrada. They celebrated 24 years of marriage and raised four sons: Robert, Michael, Juan, Jose and one daughter, Kristen (the apple of his eye).
Michael retired from the United States Postal Service in 2013 after 20 plus years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren in his free time, and cooking delicious meals for his family, especially his famous pizza. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, as well as his unique laugh.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael. He is survived by his mother, Lucy, sister, Gloria (Manuel) and brother Steven (Peggy), his daughter Kristen (Michael), and sons: Robert (Elizabeth), Michael (Julise), Juan, and Jose (Francis). He was a loving grandfather and is survived by ten grandchildren: Jessica, Joshua, Saul, Ariel, Julianna, Yaretzi, Ethan, Damian, Elana (his birthday twin) and Liam. He is also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews: Stephen, Jacqui, Crystal, Gina, Otto, Steven, Christopher, Daniel, Jason, Angelo, Pauly, Jimmy, Lisa as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Orland Funeral Home, 9900 West 143rd Street, Orland Park, Illinois. A celebration of Michael's life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 13th at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.
