Anselmo was born January 22, 1934 in La Romana, Dominican Republic to the late Elena King and the late Daniel Pratt. He later moved to the United States at the age of 27, determined to make a better life for himself. He arrived in New York City in August 1961, where he first took a job as an office clerk. In August 1963 he returned to the Dominican Republic to marry his love, Olga, and the two returned to live in the United States.
He worked very hard—he lived by the mantra “work hard, study hard, and be a good citizen”—and his persistence and determination in life paid off. After spending the next several years working a full-time job during the day while also taking Business Administration courses in the evenings, he ascended to a long and successful career as a purchasing agent for several different companies. He loved his work and was dedicated to self-improvement and learning. He always encouraged all his loved ones to do the same.
Anselmo lived a full and warm life, filled with joy and happiness. He was a caring man who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Christopher and Samantha. Being closer to them, watching them grow and being a part of their lives was the main reason for his decision to retire to Orlando, Florida, in 1997.
Along with his work and his family, Anselmo’s other passion was baseball. As a young boy in the Dominican Republic, he dreamed of being a baseball player, and the sport remained his passion throughout the rest of his life. He loved talking baseball stats with anyone that would listen and attended as many baseball games as he could (catching them on TV if he couldn’t make it). His favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals (#1) and the New York Mets (#2).
Anselmo is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Olga Pratt; his daughter, Lilian and son-in-law, John; his grandchildren, Christopher and Samantha; his sister Hicela, and his brother Kelvin. He also leaves behind many friends that became family in Orlando, New York, the Dominican Republic and other places around the world.
