She was born in La Vega, Dominican Republic on September 16, 1921, the daughter of Ulysses Rodriguez Nunez and Altagracia Lopez Medina (lovingly called Mama Chicha). She was the sixth child in a family of nine siblings. She died at the age of 99 in Orlando, Florida on March 8th, 2021.
A doctor of dental medicine, a professor and pioneer in microbiology research, a singer, a breast cancer survivor, a caregiver and a Bible scholar. If you would have asked her what was her greatest achievement, she would have said the day she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ. All her professional discoveries paled in comparison to the Truth revealed to her in God’s word. She had the great joy of knowing that all her children and grandchildren walk according to the teachings of Jesus and that her great-grandchildren are being raised with the same hunger.
She will be fondly remembered by her children: Anaura Velázquez (Freddy), Hector Tirado (Anita), and Soraya Kitts; her grandchildren: Michael Tirado, Jonathan Kitts (Shea), Heather Dodge (Justin), Gabriella Ferreira (Rafael), and Christopher Velázquez; her great-grandchildren: Olivia Shannon Kitts, Emma Kate Kitts, Juliette Aura Kitts, Jackson Avery Kitts, Nicole Soraya Dodge, Isaac Warren Ferreira, Grayson Patrick Kitts, Hector Derek Tirado and Levi Rafael Ferreira; her beloved former husband, Hector Vinicio Tirado Javier; and her dear nieces and nephews.
