His family moved back from Washington DC to their family home in Montour Falls, NY in 1954. The family home, now a historical museum, previously served as a local tavern. Growing up in Montour Falls, he became an Eagle Scout, attending a national jamboree in Valley Forge in July of 1957 and then the 100 year celebratory jamboree in England in August of 1957. He told many fond stories about these trips, especially the boat trip over and back to England.

Chuck moved to Florida for college, attending Rollins College, where he obtained his Undergraduate and Master Degree. He enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach, FL. While he was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base, he enjoyed playing golf in his spare time, even getting hole in one shot at the 14th tee. Chuck also became a blood donor for the astronaut space program after the tragedy of Apollo 1 fire on the launch pad, which he was very proud of throughout his life.

He moved back to Orlando where he married his wife Harriet on February 7, 1976. Chuck embraced being surrounded by women and joined the Indian Princesses, a YMCA program for fathers & daughters, with his girls. This program allowed them to enjoy many camping trips together throughout the state.
Chuck became a staunch FSU fan, since Harriet and LeighAnne both attended college there. He was often seen wearing some type of FSU gear, even to the embarrassment of his daughters, under his white dress shirt at Church.

In the last four years, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He always wanted to play one more round of golf but was unable. Instead, Lora and LeighAnne ran in a fundraising race the weekend before his death in honor of him, coming in second place for both individual and team fundraising.
