

Donna Sue Armstrong, 87, of Maitland, Florida, passed away on November 10, 2015 in Orlando, Florida surrounded by her husband and children. A Memorial Service celebrating her faith and life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 11:30 AM with Reverend Gary Rideout officiating. Donna Sue Thompson was born in Springfield, Missouri to Donald and Mae Thompson on July 9, 1928. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1946. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education from Southwest Missouri State Teachers College (Missouri State). She later earned a Master of Arts Degree in English from the University of Central Florida. Mrs. Armstrong worked as an English Teacher for 30 years with Orange County Public Schools, primarily at Edgewater High School. At Edgewater, Mrs. Armstrong was sponsor of the Thespian Club and taught drama directing numerous plays and musicals. She was always fondly remembered by college students who appreciated the foundation she gave them in English. Mrs. Armstrong was a member of First United Methodist Church of Winter Park for over fifty years where she was widely known for her excellent Sunday School lessons, the public reading of scripture, and for directing church plays and musicals. Over the years she served as a Youth Choir Mother and Acolyte Mother. She enjoyed any sort of activity that her grandchildren were involved in. She loved attending plays and musicals in a variety of venues, but especially at the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse. She was a member of the St. Andrews Society of Central Florida, and supported the Annual Highland games of the Scottish American Society of Central Florida. Mrs. Armstrong is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mae Thompson, her first husband, Donald J. Hoy, her sister-in-law, Sally Hoy Payne, and her stepson, Grant Armstrong. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her husband of 53 years, Milton of Maitland, Florida; sister Jeannine Thompson Woolery of Danville, CA; sons Wesley Hoy of Gainesville, FL and Jeffrey (Ann) Hoy of Melbourne, FL; daughter, Janna Hoy Ballentine (Vinny) Johnston of Ocoee, FL; stepdaughters, Jeanne (Lonnie) Culbertson of Elizabeth, CO; Diana (David) Doane of Colorado Springs, CO; stepson, Jim (Yolly) Armstrong of Winter Garden, FL; sister-in-law, Nancy Hoy (Murray) Tiffany of Port Charlotte, FL; brothers-in-law Stanley (Lilly) Armstrong of Galax, VA, Kay (Phyllis) Armstrong of Republic, MO, and Charles L. Armstrong of Maitland, FL; nieces Susanne Woolery, Virginia Woolery Rogstad, Leesa Tiffany (Dave) Thompson, Teresa Payne Goebel, Mary Armstrong, Catherine Cattan, Carol Armstrong; nephews Lance Armstrong, William Cattan, Bruce Woolery, David Woolery, Alan Woolery, Murray Lee Tiffany, AND Larry (Valerie) TiffanY. Donna Sue treasured her grandchildren Tiffany (Luke) Pastor, Jeffrey (Jessie) Hoy, Andrew (Brenna) Hoy, Kathy Mae Ballentine, David Ballentine, Matthew (Kelly) Armstrong, Jennifer (Jason) Armstrong Parks, Gregory Armstrong, Staci (James) Stabler, James Stabler, Jr., Mydnyte Foland, Chance Wood, Johnathan Boss, Tiffany Cullen; and her great-grandchildren: Noah Pastor, Brooke Pastor, Liberty Pastor, Sylvia Hoy, Jillian Grace Armstrong, Hanna Riley Armstrong, Jackson Everett Parks, Camryn Elyse Parks.
