Lorraine M. Phillips, passed on to the Lord, on September 3, 2013. She was born Lorraine Marie Hendrick, on May 6, 1928, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In Toronto, she worked as a personal secretary in the engineering department of Orenda Aircraft Engines. She met her Husband, David Phillips, in Toronto and they were married on June 7, 1947. Never afraid of hard work, Lorraine and Dave built their first house by hand. While on a vacation to Florida in December, 1953, she discovered one of the joys of Florida living, no snow! Lorraine and Dave moved to Florida in December, 1955. She went to work as a secretary at GE Supply in Orlando. They also bought and ran The Pines Motel on old highway 50 in Bithlo. Located across from the old Bithlo Restaurant and Truck Stop. The motel was popular with travelers. In 1967, they sold the motel and moved into Orlando. She then concentrated on raising their 2 children as a homemaker. When the children were in High school, she turned the two things she enjoyed into freelance businesses, baking and decorating cakes, as well as seamstress and upholstery work. Her work was always in demand and won high praise from her customers. Later in life, she worked at H&R Block for 11 years, where she built a large clientele of customers who only wanted her to do their taxes. After retiring from H&R Block, she would volunteer at free tax help workshops for the elderly. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church since the beginning of the parish.
She is survived by her husband, David Phillips, son Michael Phillips, daughter Patricia Phillips, dog Harley and granddaughters Lorraine E and Brietta L Phillips. She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers Michael, Jack, & Joseph Hendrick.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory should be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
