Pedro Juan Lizardi, lovingly known as "Oogie," passed away on February 3, 2025. He was born on April 4, 1962, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Ernesto Lizardi and the late Lilliam Collazo. Pedro was one of four children and grew up in a close-knit, loving family.
He attended Academia Santa María Catholic School during his elementary years before transferring to La Sagrada Familia for middle school. He later graduated from Dr. Pila High School. With a passion for mechanics, Pedro moved to Oklahoma to pursue studies in aeronautic mechanics, which eventually led him to Daytona Beach, Florida, with the aspiration of attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
While in Daytona Beach, his love for race cars flourished, and his connection to the ocean deepened. In January 1992, he settled in Ormond-by-the-Sea, where he found his forever home.
Pedro dedicated nearly four decades of his life to Publix Supermarkets, where he worked from 1985 until his passing. He had an undeniable love for speed, cars, and the thrill of driving fast on the open highway. His passion extended to boats and the ocean, where he found peace and joy. He cherished spending time with his late dog, Buddy, and later his loyal companion, Mac, who remained faithfully by his side.
Pedro was a man of unwavering faith, placing his trust in God throughout every step of his life. He prayed faithfully each day and rarely missed Sunday Mass, certain that he would be welcomed into eternal life. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and kindness. Charismatic, helpful, and caring, Pedro had a unique way of touching the hearts of those around him. He was the kind of person who never missed an important event, always made sure to express his love, and gave the best, most heartfelt hugs. His presence could light up a room, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
He is survived by his father, Ernesto Lizardi; his brothers, Ernesto (Tito) Lizardi and wife Waleska, and Omar Luis (Omi) Lizardi and wife Maria; his sister, Maria Luisa (Ivy) Urquiola and husband Gary; and his cherished nieces and nephews: Omar Luis, Katherina Marie, Daniel, Gary Quinton (GQ), Jorge Antonio (AJ), Claire, Gabriela, Mariah Alexis, and Karlos.
Pedro’s family finds comfort in the countless memories they shared and the lasting impact he had on their lives. Though he is no longer physically present, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
May he rest in peace, forever remembered and forever loved.
