

Born in 1934 and raised in Lake Geneva, WI. Vern was the son of Carl and Alice Stephan. He had one sister, Sandi, who married Thomas Nelson, both deceased.
After attending Lake Geneva public schools as a member of the class of 1952 he became an apprentice electrician and graduated as a Journeyman from Kenosha Technical College (now Gateway). He served his apprenticeship in the family business started by his father in 1947.
In 1956 he went on active duty in the United States Navy. Vern served 5 years in the USN Active Reserve and was deployed to Washington D.C., Coronado, CO, Japan and Subic Bay, Philippines. Following an honorable discharge he rejoined the family business.
He married the love of his life Nancy on October 10th, 1959 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva. He is survived by his wife Nancy, their three sons; Scott, Rick and Mark, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Vern enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys as well as their school activities. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Wis. Badgers, football and basketball, and the Green Bay Packers.
Vern was a member of the Country Gentlemen Barbershop Chorus for forty-five years, attending numerous conventions in the US and Canada. Vern served in various civic capacities in the Lake Geneva area including Jaycees, Lions Club, Fire Department, Park Board, Planning Committee and the Geneva Lake Museum.
Vern and Nancy took over his father’s electrical business in 1973. They sold the business in 2000 when they began splitting their time between homes in Florida and Wisconsin. In Florida, Vern was active with a USN retirees’ group, served the Citrus County Sherriff’s Department as a volunteer and sang with the Chorus of the Highlands Barbershoppers.
