ORLEANS, MA – Charles S. Hart (Stan), 88, of Orleans, MA, formerly of Andover, MA, died peacefully March 30th, 2012 with family at his side. A 24 year resident of Orleans, he had numerous friends and family in the area. After surviving the early death of his wife, Dorothea B. Hart in 1994, he went on to become a dedicated Cape Codder , was active with Cape Cod Adventures and the Nauset Newcomers Singles group, traveled frequently, volunteered for the Orleans Council on Aging and served on several town boards. He was a WW2 Navy veteran, a 1945 graduate of Princeton University, and a 1941 Graduate of Deerfield Academy. With a degree in Civil Engineering, he pursued a career in architecture and construction engineering, and was a Project Manager for Bond Brothers, Inc., in Everett, MA for 18 years.
Always passionate about his sons and grandchildren, he hosted many a Cape reunion at his home. A man who always preferred the personal touch of face-to-face communication, the written note or a phone call, he often lamented the computer age’s elimination of the handwritten letter. An avid collector of lighthouse paraphernalia, his house was always a shrine to the topic.
He is survived by his three sons, Charles R. Hart of Methuen, MA, Clinton B. Hart of Marblehead, MA and Dean S. Hart of Arcata, CA, three grandchildren, Anya Joy Hart, Madeline Hart-Pomerantz, and Hannah Hart-Pomerantz. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Polly) H. Smythe and his sister-in-law, Nancy T. Badger, of East Dennis, MA.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in his memory to the Orleans Elementary School Playground Project, Orleans Elementary School, 46 Eldridge Pkwy, Orleans, MA 02653. Family and friends will be invited to a memorial service in late summer 2012.
