Clara (“Bee”) Bornemeier passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Terraces in Orleans, MA, at the age of 102. She had been a resident of Chatham and Orleans for the past ten years, a vigorous walker-around-town well into her nineties. Mentally sharp until the end of her vibrant life, she always rejoiced in news about the accomplishments of her wide circle of family and friends.
Born in Nebraska in 1913, she lived a full life as wife, homemaker, and professional Librarian, happily married for fifty-seven years to her husband Rus, mother of two sons, grandmother to five, and great-grandmother to six. She met her husband—who lovingly nicknamed her “Bee”--while they were students at the University of Nebraska and they resided over the years in Philadelphia, St Louis, and Laguna Niguel, CA, before she relocated to Cape Cod on the passing of her husband.
Bee was a proud and revered matriarch to her sons and their families, Steve and his wife Marilyn of Orleans, MA, and their children and grandchildren, and Jim and his wife Jane of New York City and their children and grandchildren. Throughout her life Bee was known for her gracious hospitality and beloved by all for her inventive creativity, her welcoming style, and her thoughtfulness. A private celebration of her life was held in Orleans on May 22, 2016, the day that would have been her 103rd birthday.
The family requests that donations in her honor be made to Save the Children or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
