

She was born on August 8, 1931 to the late Jacob and Nina Roney, Hagerstown, Maryland. Doris became a registered nurse in Baltimore, MD. She married William Householder in 1955 and they lived in various states including New York, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. They retired to their home in Wellfleet, MA then moved to Plymouth and back to Yarmouthport. They also spent many winters in their condo in Naples, FL. Doris enjoyed raising her four children as well as working as a preschool teacher and special education assistant. Doris and her children donated time tutoring students in need at a church in Newark, New Jersey during the early 1970’s. Doris had a strong belief in social justice and participated in many activities to advocate for peace and equality including making lunches for people riding the bus to Martin Luther King’s March on Washington. She advocated for women’s rights and rights of all people of any race, religion, or sexual orientation. Doris was an avid reader, great Mah-Jongg player, and enjoyed the daily New York Times crossword puzzle. She and Bill loved traveling to many parts of the country and taking cruises to other parts of the world.
She is survived by her husband William and four children: Lori Peterman (David), Lisa Fogarty (William), David Householder (Cindy), and Robert Householder (Natasha). She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great-children.
A private memorial service will be held at Dennis Union Church on February 1, 2025.
