Doris H Ruggero, 94, of Harwich, MA passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, surrounded by her family and listening to her favorite program’s theme song from “Outlander”, which was recorded for her by her grandson & his partner.
Doris was born on January 4, 1926 in Weehawken, NJ to the late Robert & Helen Franke. She graduated High School and secretarial school, after which she worked for Citibank in NYC.
She attended St John’s Episcopal Church where she met the love of her life, late husband Nicholas D Ruggero. They married in 1949 and lived in Union City, NJ until 1953 when they moved to Glen Rock, NJ. After taking time off to be a stay-at-home mom, she returned to work as a secretary for the Glen Rock Board of Education.
After her husband’s death in 2002, she continued to live in Glen Rock, until 2007 when she moved to Harwich, MA. Cape Cod was their favorite vacation spot since the early 70’s and the planned retirement location for her two daughters.
Doris was an active member of St Peter’s Lutheran Church of Cape Cod in Harwich and participated in the Esther Circle group.
She is survived by daughters Lynn Hatch (husband Richard) of Harwich and Jean Leidenfrost (husband Frank) of Brewster, MA, her two grandsons Christopher Leidenfrost (partner Rick Allen Wilson) of Baldwin, NY and Thomas Leidenfrost of Brewster, as well as Frank’s children, her grandchildren of the heart, Paul Leidenfrost of W Yarmouth, MA and Kimberly Vasgersian of Wycoff, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St Peter’s Lutheran Church of Cape Cod, Harwich or Broad Reach Hospice and Palliative Care, N Chatham.
A memorial service will be held at on August 1st, t the Memorial Garden of St Peter’s Lutheran Church of Cape Cod, however due to COVID restrictions attendance will be limited to the immediate family.
