Edna R. Mayo

Orleans-Edna Ruth (Vaughn) Mayo passed away on January 2, 2014 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband John M. Mayo of Orleans in 1993 and her daughter Doris (Mayo) King of Gardner, MA in 2012. She is survived by her children: Susan R. Mayo of Melrose, John Mayo Jr. of Hopedale, William Mayo of Pensacola, FL, Kathleen (Mayo) Mohla of Orleans, Merilyn (Mayo) Kennedy of Winchester; and six grandchildren: William, Elizabeth, Nathan, Keely, Cathlin, and Jennifer as well as three great grandchildren: Taybor, Winter, and Anna.

Edna was born in Dorchester, MA on May 1, 1914. She graduated from Orleans High School in 1931 and married her high school sweetheart on May 29, 1937. She was devoted to her family and retired to the cape with her husband in 1978. She loved crosswords and jigsaw puzzles as well as crafts such as knitting, crocheting, plastic canvas, etc. She volunteered a lot of her time to charity. Her sense of humor was what helped her to enjoy life.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 3, 2014 in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
