James Andrew Larkin, the most loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away in his wife’s arms, peacefully at his home in Orleans, MA on April 22, 2023 after a courageous battle with illness. He was 77 years old.
Born on June 15, 1945 in the Bronx, Jim had fond memories of summers at Beach Lake and Coney Island. He was predeceased by his mother Louisa Maass Larkin and father James John Larkin. Following his parents’ divorce, Jim and his family relocated to Hackensack, NJ, where he finished High School before attending the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan to study children’s illustration, and later, advertising graphic design.
After graduation Jim’s career in NYC included jobs with Clairol, Southmade Publishing, Trinart, and JC Penney Corporate, where he was hired to establish an in-house photo studio for the internal affairs department. A talented editor in word and image, Jim shot photography assignments all over the country, capturing stories and images that would be featured in the JC Penny Today publication. In January 1984 he met the love of his life, future bride and creative business partner, Carol. Together they established Linger & Larkin Creative Concept & Design. Jim was the guy behind the scenes incorporating his diverse talents and experience to anchor the agency as it rapidly grew for 30+ years. He could always make you laugh with a quick doodle and creative wit. Jim loved his coffee rich and strong, and even more, his animals. The Larkins were dedicated supporters of animal rescue, and their home was always filled with a joyful menagerie of dogs, cats, birds, baby bunnies, turtles and any animals that needed their love.
Jim and Carol’s love for each other was unmatched. Over almost 40 years they grew to be one spirit. Rarely apart, they traversed many adventures, always with the strength and comfort of each other to rely on.
Jim's family and friends will always remember him as a man of few words but with much to say. His quiet strength, gentle nature, and graceful demeanor were an inspiration to all who knew him. Jim and Carol married in 1987 and chose Verona, NJ as a home and business location for almost 40 years. Jim loved nature, the ocean and food – all kinds. He was fearless about trying anything new and in 2017, attracted by its natural quiet beauty, he and Carol moved to Cape Cod.
Jim is survived by Carol, his best friend and wife; his sister Louisa, his nephews Eric and Marc, his nieces Julia and Andrea, and his brother-in-law Bruce. Jim's signature mustache and kind spirit will be greatly missed, but his legacy of love and grace will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
