Jared was born and raised in Eastham, his cherished hometown, to Glenn and Linda (Beusee) Collins on Christmas Eve, 1987. Four years later, he earned the proud title of big brother to Cameron Morgan Collins. As a child, you could find Jared catching (and safely releasing) frogs, climbing trees, hiking, and exploring. Some of Jared’s favorite childhood memories include walks with his Dad, showing him the local trails and teaching him the names of various insects, animals, trees, and plants. The month of July was always special with his cousin Charlie visiting to share the passion of nature. This curiosity and love certainly inspired his high school volunteer job of recording peeper calls with the National Park Service in warm, spring weather.
Family was Jared’s top priority. He took great pride in his family’s ties to Cape Cod and its history. He contributed his energy greatly to his family property on Collins Cove. Family legacy was something he held in high esteem throughout his life.
Jared graduated from Nauset Regional High School with high honors in 2006. His senior year is also where he met his first love, Alana. Writing her daily poetry, he was the shining example of what high school sweethearts are truly made of. Jared also graduated with over 400 hours of community service, thereby receiving the permanent community service brick forever displayed on Nauset’s campus.
Jared chose to further his education at California State University Long Beach, with the added benefit of living with his loved California grandparents, Jerry and Jo Ann Beusee. After two years, he moved back to the Cape to finish his Associates degree in Communication at Cape Cod Community College. Having the experience of living on both ends of the country was something Jared really valued. From the Atlantic to the Pacific and back again, he had such fondness for all the friendships and adventures he made along the way – driving across the country with his father and exploring the California desert with his mother being the two most important highlights to him.
After dating off and on from ‘06-’09, Jared and Alana moved in together, living in Harwich, in 2010. After some convincing on Alana’s part, the two became cat parents – something Jared took very seriously. Mo, Pax, and Heathcliff were the ones who made him a Cat Dad, and he forever cherished them.
Subsequently, once he proposed to Alana at the very tip of Cape Cod, Jared and Alana tied the knot in the Province Lands September 22, 2012. When asked, Jared would always say that this was his ‘best day ever’. Their closest family and friends would talk fondly of how much fun they had that day for years to come.
Jared and his brother Cameron soon struck up their own oystering business, Collins Cove Oysters, accruing grants that had been in their family since 1926 and the first oyster grants in Eastham. Both men were incredibly proud to own this business that remains strong today. Leaving a dozen oysters hanging from the docks for friends and family became something Jared was known for around town.
In his thirties, Jared was voted into Eastham’s Select Board and president of Evergreen Cemetery. Giving back and serving his hometown was something he felt he was meant to do. Seeing people in need on the town’s FaceBook page and getting the word out was something Jared did on a regular basis, simply because it was “the right thing to do”.
Everyone in his community gravitated towards Jared, appreciating his kind, gentle nature and brilliant wit. He always knew how to fix someone’s water issues due to the knowledge he gained as a well driller in his mid-late twenties, and offered to lend a hand to anyone who asked for it. Jared was a problem solver before anything else, especially if he could reuse something for another purpose.
In 2019, Jared and Alana purchased and moved into his paternal grandparents’ family home. Ken and Marilyn Collins touched many lives in Eastham, so Jared could not be more proud to live in the house with so many fond memories, including holiday celebrations with his cousins Beth and John. He also continued to be an avid writer and woodworker, always creating.
Jared’s countless family and friends are devastatingly at a loss without him. Those of which include his soulmate and wife of eleven years Alana Joye (Daley) Collins, beloved parents Linda and Glenn Collins, treasured brother Cameron Collins, grandparents Carol Beusee of Harwich and Jerry and Jo Ann Beusee of California, mother in law Janet Daley, brother in law John Daley, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his furry daughter Ziva.
