Joyce was born in Burlington, VT April 8, 1931. She married Jim Chung and had 6 children whom they raised in Burlington, VT. She and her husband owned and operated a tailor shop in Burlington for over 20 years.
She was active in many activities while her children were growing up, including Den mother for Boy Scouts, President of PTA, President of Camp Fire Girls, Red Cross Swim Instructor and Sunday School teacher. She was a jack of all trades and enjoyed sewing, crafts, woodworking, gardening, cooking, knitting and traveling.
She moved to Orleans MA in 1978 with her family to support her husband Jim and son WaLun to open the Double Dragon Inn in Orleans where she worked well into her 70's. She was the seamstress who reupholstered the booths, she hung the wall paper, was hostess, waitress, bartender, Public Relations, doing all jobs necessary to make things run smoothly. Her hard work ethic, calm cool attitude not only made her a pleasure to work with but a wonderful person to be around.
At the age of 54 she thought it would be a great gift to take her entire family including children and 11 grandchildren all under the age of 9 on a ski trip to Sugarloaf USA. Though, Joyce herself did not know how to ski, she took the opportunity to learn so she would not miss out on any of the action on the mountain and watching her grandchildren learn how to ski. This continued for 11 years of lifelong lessons. Not only did she provide the opportunity for her family to spend quality time together, but also an unforgettable experience.
Such as rolling down the snow bank and jumping in the hot tub which was her idea.
As a matriarch of the family, she was really the "GRAND-mother". She was a constant spectator, mentor and support person for all her children's and grandchildren's many activities including but not limited to: gymnastics, judo, dance, music, karate, baseball, soccer, swimming, skiing, and snowboarding. She was the heart of our family, she is and always will be loved and in our hearts forever and she knows that.
