Leona Florence Hatfield

Lee was born in Boston on March 21, 1924. She grew up part of a big, happy family in Norwood where she enjoyed playing tennis on nearby clay courts. She even met her future husband, the late Gordon V. Hatfield, on a tennis court. After graduating from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1942, she married Gordon on his birthday, November 16, 1943, in the midst of WWII. The couple lived in Lexington for 38 years, focused on a busy family life raising 6 sons and one daughter, attending many Little League games, school sports events and continuing to play tennis together. The couple moved to Brewster in 1987 and savored Cape life together until Gordon's death in 1996. Lee continued her active lifestyle, hosting Brewster Whitecaps players for many summers, playing tennis into her late 80s, enjoying bridge, mahjongg and visits with family and friends.

Lee is survived by her children and their spouses; Gordon V. Hatfield Jr. and his wife Mary of Reading, (the late) Philip A. Hatfield and his wife Jane of Reading, Stephen L. Hatfield of Chelmsford, Richard A. Hatfield and his wife Jennifer of Brewster, David F. Hatfield and his wife Gail of Chelmsford, Ellen P. Courtney and her husband Douglas of Somerville, ME and Jeffrey P. Hatfield of Brewster. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Jessica Guaragna of Boxford, Daniel Hatfield of Somerville, Brian Hatfield of Cambridge, Terrence Hatfield of Fort Collins, CO, Carrie Hatfield of Aiken, SC, Paige Courtney of Somerville, ME and Rachel Hatfield of South Yarmouth. She leaves four cherished great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ashton Guaragna of Boxford and Aiden Orpen and Aubrey Zella of Aiken, SC. Lee is also survived by her sister, Flore L. Craig of Concord and her brother, Thomas L. Piston of Bellevue, Washington.

A committal service will be held at 11:15 AM on June 2, 2017 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brewster Council on Aging.
