

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 27, 2022, at the Church of the Transfiguration. Burial will follow at the Orleans Cemetery. Arrangements are by Nickerson Funeral Home.
Tom was born in Elkhart, Indiana to Roy and Charlotte (Stephenson) Witter on August 6, 1925. He went to school at Elkhart High School then entered the US Naval Reserves on July 1, 1943. Following the Navy, he earned a BSME from Purdue University and married Jane Lull on December 18, 1948. He worked with Illinois Tool Works and went on to earn an MBA from Stanford university in 1959. He worked for United Carr Fastener for six years and then went on to Princeton Theological Seminar and earned a M.Div. in 1965. At that time, he became the Assistant Minister at the Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darian, CT. and then served as the Pastor for Northfield Presbyterian Church from 1967 to 1970.
In November of 1970 Tom and his family moved to the Community of Jesus in Orleans, MA. During the ensuing years, Tom became the Minister of Visitation, participated in the Nauset Clergy, and joined the Evangelical Ministers Association, volunteered at Cape Cod Hospital, and became a founding director of the Hospice of Cape and Islands, where he served as a volunteer for many years. He began regular nursing home visitations at Orleans Convalescent Home and Brewster Manor and visited periodically at Cape Cod Hospital and most nursing homes on the Cape. Additionally, Tom and Jane served at the Heydon Trust in Bermuda for five years and at Parkminister Church in Rochester for two years. In 1997 he founded a meal program for homeless people on the Lower Cape; LOCAL (Lower Cape Lunch) began at the Orleans Methodist Church with 13 Churches and the Jewish AM HA Yam as sponsors and continues to this day. In 1998 Tom was named Volunteer of the Year for the Lower Cape. Starting in 2003, Tom served as the Pastorium librarian.
Tom is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane, and his daughter Ann.
Tom is survived by Steve (Lori) Witter and Susan Wilkins; and his grandsons Br. Jacob Witter, Paul (Kaity) Witter and his great-grandsons Brody and Noah.
