Surrounded by the love of her family, Carmen G. Nieves peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, September 22, 2025 at the age of 91. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Carmen was truly the heart and soul of her family — a woman whose strength, warmth, and kindness created a foundation of love for generations to come.
Carmen was a nurturer in every sense. Her home was a sanctuary where all were welcomed, fed, and cared for. If you visited, you never left hungry — and you never left feeling alone. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, known, and loved. Her kitchen was always filled with the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals, and her presence brought peace. She could silence a room with a single glance — not out of fear, but out of the deep respect she commanded simply by being herself.
She had a zest for life and found joy in the simple pleasures. Carmen loved spending time with her cherished Dog Colbie. She loved shopping for shoes, trying her luck at the casino, and when she couldn't go out, she kept the fun alive with her lotto numbers. Her laughter was contagious, her advice always heartfelt, and her ability to bring people together was unmatched. Above all, Carmen cherished her family. Every moment spent with them was a gift she held close, and her love for them knew no bounds.
Carmen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonardo Nieves Sr., with whom she shared a life full of love, resilience, and devotion. Though her heart missed him dearly, she remained the steady light for her family, guiding them with strength and unwavering love.
She is survived by her children: Jose A. Vega and his wife Carmen, Wanda Nieves and her husband Derek, Leonardo Nieves Jr. and his wife Patricia, and Josephine Nieves and her husband Julien. She was a proud grandmother to Jose Vega Jr., Joyce Marie, Rebecca, Robert, Amanda, Cindy, Priscilla, Leonardo Nieves III, Jessica, Joseph, and Julissa. Her love extended into future generations, with great-grandchildren Isabella, Penelope, Reuben, Joe, Alyssa, Julianna, Siyali, Auriella, Jurian, and Lucian, and one great-great-grandson, Andre. She also leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends who were deeply touched by her life.
Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Carmen’s beautiful life on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home. There will also be a time for visitation one hour prior to the service on Monday. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Carmen’s love lives on in the meals shared, the laughter remembered, and the lessons passed down from generation to generation. Her strength, her grace, and her unconditional love will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the blessing of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and eternally cherished.
