

Funeral Services for Charles C. Underwood, Jr. 93, of Ormond Beach, who passed away October 25, 2014, will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 548 N. Nova Road Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 5-7 p.m. Mr. Underwood was born April 16, 1921 in Dewitt, NY, son of Stella and Charles Underwood Sr.. On July 10, 1948 in Peru, NY, he married Verma Jane Pickard Underwood. They moved to Florida in 1959 settling in Ormond Beach in 1965. Charles was a precision tool and gauge specialist at General Electric from 1965 until his retirement in 1986. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII who served in the Battle of the Bulge, Mr. Underwood was actively involved in civic and veteran’s organizations to include DAV and St. Cloud Masonic Lodge # 221 F&A.M. On May 24, 2014 he was honored as Veteran of the Year for Greater Daytona Beach . He was also a member of Ormond Beach Union Church. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Bonita Jean Parks Winn and son-in-law John Winn of Daytona Beach and Rebecca Elaine Underwood and son -in-law Larry Fessenden of New York City, N.Y.; grandson Jack Henry Fessenden; and sister, Lois Sandford, Jordan, NY.
