

Joseph Cleveland Lane, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully in his home in Ormond Beach, on November 22nd, joining his Savior in Heaven. Joe was born to Joseph C. and Maude Lane on May 14, 1928 in Anniston, Alabama. A southern gentleman, he had a smile for everyone he met and blue eyes that sparkled.
Joe was raised during the depression in Anniston, and at a young age, worked in the family business delivering ice to homes prior to the common use of refrigeration and later on a home milk delivery route.
After graduating from Anniston High School, St. Petersburg Junior College, and Florida State University with a degree in business administration, he moved to this area in 1955, and retired in 1984 after a thirty-year career with Crawford & Company insurance adjusters, as assistant manager of the Daytona Beach office. Joe was a past president of the Daytona Beach Claims Association and received the Phil Wyatt Award as Adjuster of the Year in 1976.
He had a life-long love of sports and was a talented athlete playing baseball, football, and basketball at Anniston High School and later semi-professional baseball in Tampa, FL. Joe was an avid racquetball player at the Daytona Beach YMCA and also served on the board of directors.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Maude Lane; first wife, Marilyn Meiter Lane (1987), second wife, Barbara Lane,(2005); by a brother, Morris B. Lane, and sisters, Margaret Anderson and Peggy Keppard.
Survivors include a brother James D. Lane of Fayetteville, PA., sons, Joseph (Cindy) of Orlando, and Paul (Pattie) of Ormond Beach, and grandchildren, James and Marilyn Lane, Orlando, Alisan Lane, Ormond Beach, Jessica Lane, St. Augustine, and David Lane of Fort Bragg, North Carolina (US Army, 82nd Airborne Division).
He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church of Daytona Beach.
