

Marguerite Gallagher Juras, passed peacefully into paradise on February 5, 2024 the day before her 97th birthday with her best friend, Gerri Gettman by her side. She was the second daughter of the late Martha Victoria Grant and Thomas Francis Gallagher. She is predeceased by her husband of 36 years, John C. Juras, her sisters, Martha (Gallagher) Vance, Patricia (Gallagher) Stapleton-Shipton and Joan (Gallagher) Holzschuh, brother, Thomas F. Gallagher, Jr. Born in Rochester, New York on February 6, 1927, she spent her early years enjoying athletic activities and graduated from Baldwinsville Academy. She was an avid reader and prolific writer of poetry who wrote two books “The Two Lives of Sister Birdie” and “Wild Bird Songs”.
Known to her friends and family as Peg or Sister Peg, she was formerly known as Sister Bernard Mary, a Sisters of St. Joseph nun for 25 years in Rochester, New York. She loved teaching children – big and small about the love of God. Peg retired to Florida in 1969 joining her mother and sisters in Ormond Beach. She met and married John Juras and began a life full of travel, golf, family outings, continued devotion to God and teaching the Bible as a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Peg never knew a stranger and would often tell people “the Jesus in me loves the Jesus in you” as she took a genuine interest in loving people.
Left to remember Peg and share fond memories are her sisters-in-law, Laurence Gallagher, Lyon, France, Margaret Juras Decker, Delvan, WI and Gamble ( Benedict) Gallagher-Keifer, Hershey, PA. Nieces -Tree (Holzschuh) Hazard, Joni (Holzschuh) Hannah, Dawn (Stapleton) Randall, Hope (Stapleton) Cuddahee, Sally (Stapleton) Van Kirk; Christine (Gallagher) Barnes; Nephews- Tim Stapleton, George, Gregory and Grant Gallagher; as well as several dear friends and former students.
A funeral mass is scheduled for March 1st at 8:30am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL.
