

Mark T Maher, 52, of Daytona Beach, passed away July 6, 2016. He was born in Oak Lawn, IL and moved to this area in 1968. He also spent many years in Suwanee, Ga., working in Grocery Management. Mark was an outstanding swimmer and in 1982 was named the most valuable swimmer of Mainland H.S. He was awarded a full swimming scholarship from Eastern Kentucky University and graduated in 1983. A member of the Volusia County Beach Patrol from 1982-1985, Mark’s swimming and beach lifesaving accomplishments include numerous local, state and national awards. He is survived by his mother Geraldine Friedman and step- father, Leonard Friedman , Ponce Inlet; step- mother, Rosemary Maher, Chicago, IL; brother, John P. Maher, Daytona Beach; brother-in-law , Peter Fausel; nephews, Jonathon, Stephen and Andrew and niece, Alyssa. Mark was predeceased by his father, John J. Maher, and sisters, Mary Carol Maher and Celeste Renae (Maher) Fausel. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 and 10-11 a.m., Saturday July 16, 2016 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 548 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach. A funeral mass will be celebrated 12:00 noon ,Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 600 S. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach followed by interment in Volusia Memorial Park. The family invites you to join them for a reception after the service. On Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 8 a.m. there will be a Memorial Surf Paddle Out at Andy Romano Beach Front Park 839 S.
