Mary Merriman “Sissie” Schmidt, 78, a lifelong resident of Volusia County left us on Monday, July 18, 2016. In the prime of her life she enjoyed reading (you’d never find her without a book in her hand), hunting, fishing, gardening, throwing her famous barbecues, and even working on her own home improvement projects.
Mary retired from Bell South after over 30 years of serving in many different positions but she loved working in the field the most. Throughout her life she was always surrounded by those who loved and cared for her. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were considered by her to be her most precious blessings.
Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred Schmidt Jr., mother Margaret Merriman, and father Sidney Merriman. She is survived by her children Mary (Charles) West and Jimbo Thompson. She also leaves behind four grandchildren Jessica (Ballou) King, Amanda (Jesse) Dabkowski, Sara (Chad) West-Tyler, Stasia (Matt) Thompson-Korzeniowski, and five great-grandchildren Austin and Chloe King, Peyton Korzeniowski, Gregory and Elijah Dabkowski. Mary also leaves behind her caregiver Jennifer McCraney.
Her life on earth was very good, as earthly life can go, but paradise is so much more than anyone can know.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Halifax Health – Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, 32129.
