

Patrick "Paddy" Halpin was born on September 10th, 1930 and died May 11th 2013. He has a sister Biny, and a late brother Mickey, who served in Korea in the Army. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years Barbara and his two children Patrick Halpin and Theresa Jones. He was also the proud grandfather of 6. Lance, Christian, Kimberly, Britton, David and Adriana. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and military veteran. He was an avid genealogist and not only enjoyed keeping records of the family tree he was the patriarch who also helped cement our family together. His military service was as follows: In September 1947, at the age of 17, Pat joined the New York Army National Guard, the Fighting 69th, and was assigned to “H” company Heavy Machinegun Company. His job was to carry the tripod for the 30 caliber Machinegun and they nick-named him Tripod. He worked his way up to T-5 Corporal. In December 1948 he joined the US ARMY and was sent overseas assigned to Headquarters Army Security Agency Europe Frankfurt Germany. Later he was assigned to the 116th Signal Service Company re-designated as Field Station 8608 AAU. Pat became actively engaged with the Boy Scouts and eventually became a Neighborhood Commissioner. At the same time he joined the Auxiliary police at the 40th Precinct in the Bronx NY. In October 1956 Pat re-enlisted in the Army as a PFC E-3 (he lost two grades) and assigned to the Army Intelligence Center (Counter Intelligence Corps- better known as the CIC). He attended the Ground Control Approach course (GCA) and on completion was sent overseas to Germany again and assigned to the US Army Signal Depot in Pirmasens and worked on Radar equipment. He also became involved with the Boy Scouts again. Pat once again became a member of the Auxiliary Police where he retired as a Captain. In November 1959 Pat re-enlisted in his old unit the Fighting 69th and earned his way up to Master Sergeant E8. On January 1974 he was appointed as a Warrant Officer and assigned to the 42nd Maintenance Battalion. On September 30th 1990, he retired from the National Guard US Army Reserve as Chief Warrant Officer W-4. In March 1991 Pat was appointed Captain in the New York Guard Department of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) and assigned to the 9th regiment which met at the 14th street Armory and then later at the 69th Armory where he first started his military career. Feb 1994 Barbara and Pat moved to Palm Coast Florida and he was honorably discharged from the New York Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel. Pat worked as an Assistant District Commissioner of the local Boy Scouts He retired from the military After Long and Faithful Service of 45 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held May 17, 2013 10:00am at St. Stephens Catholic Chapel, 2400 E. Highway 100, Bunnell, Florida 32110 with inurnment to follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218 at 1:00pm.
