

Rita Ann Grix, 94 of Ormond Beach, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on May 24, 2014. Rita was born, Rita Ann Oyen in Dubuque, Iowa on August 28, 1919 to the late Mathias and Regina Oyen. She grew up in Hazel Green and Tennyson Wisconsin. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Art degree in 1941 from Clarke College Dubuque, Iowa. A few short years later, she married the love of her life, Joseph Grix at St. Benedict Church in Highland Park, Michigan. Rita taught typing classes at Detroit Business Institute for 25 years and worked as a Librarian for Mercy College in Detroit, Michigan for 7 years.
Rita and Joseph retired to Zephyrhills, Florida in 1978, and lived there for 25 years. Rita was a Eucharist Minister in Zephyrhills and more recently in Ormond Beach. She was also a lifetime member of NARF. She was a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zephyrhills and a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Ormond Beach.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph Grix. Left to cherish her memory are: children, Jean Franklin (Ben) Ormond Beach, FL, Raymond Grix (Christine) Livonia, MI, Vincent Grix (Sharon) Fraser, MI; one granddaughter, Kristen Grix; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, on Tuesday, June 3rd from 3:00-6:00 pm. A mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 4th beginning at 10:00 am. Condolences may be offered at www.volusiamemorialfunerals.com
