He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Kimberly Heacox Hamilton; his parents, Benjamin Leroy Wilkerson Sr. and Barbara Robinson Wilkerson.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Judy Wright Wilkerson; his grandson, Gannon Hamilton of Wichita, Kansas; his brothers, Benjamin “Butch” Wilkerson Jr. (Kathy) of Dahlonega, Georgia, and Glenn Wilkerson (Shauna) of Missoula, Montana; and his sister, Charlotte Wilkerson VanSickle of Cartersville, Georgia.
He also shared a special bond with his aunt, Carolyn Wilkerson of Hoover, Alabama, with whom he spent many summers as a young boy—memories he cherished and often shared. In addition, he is fondly remembered by longtime family friend Darlene Swonger of Lakeland, Florida, who was like a second mother to him and will always hold a special place in the family’s heart.
Ron was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom held him close to their hearts. He especially enjoyed taking them out on the boat and teaching them how to fish, one of his greatest passions.
A hardworking and determined man, Ron was never afraid of a challenge. Over the years, he served with the Polk County Fire Department, owned and operated a trucking business, and later ran a small café in Dahlonega, Georgia.
Ron had a love for life and adventure. He enjoyed cruising, bowling, camping, and traveling the country in an RV. These moments meant even more to him when shared with his grandson and family.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
