

Samson N. Black, age 83, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Sam was born December 3, 1933 in Cleveland, Georgia to the late Corene Glass and Fred Black. Sam graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Master’s in Education. He was a teacher, coach and principal to many during his 47 years in the Dekalb County School system. As a wrestling coach, Sam led his teams to 5 State Championships and was inducted to the Georgia State Wrestling Hall of Fame. In addition to his love of coaching, Sam played a vital role in starting the Atlanta chapter of The Special Olympics. Sam enjoyed boating and was an active member of the Daytona Beach Boat Club and was always willing to volunteer and help his fellow boaters. It was known by all in the club that “Sam will do it”. Sam will be deeply missed by many friends and family.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Trudi Black; daughter Ann Black Freeburn; son William Richard "Bo" Black (Sharon); and daughter Jana Black Paulk (David); brother Garvice Black, sister Beth Lord, sister Ann Floyd and sister Glennelle Peel. Sam was preceded in death by his daughter Lynn Lynch.
