Walter Carroll Phillips went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Born March 6, 1932 in Newton, North Carolina, he was preceded in death by his parents (Lona and Fred Phillips) and one sister (Betty Hollar). He is survived by his wife, Mary F. Phillips, a son, Johnny (Rebecca) of Greer, South Carolina, a daughter, Dorothy Phillips and three stepsons (Larry, Garry, and Jon Ferguson). Also surviving is his sister Janice Phillips of Hickory, North Carolina and his brother Fredrick Phillips (Patricia), also of Hickory, North Carolina. For many years, Carroll was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Holly Hill, Florida. His greatest legacy is his 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1pm until time of funeral service at 2pm at Volusia Memorial funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Kidney Foundation, the American Diabetes Foundation, or the American Heart Association.
