William "Bill" Henry Owen

Bill moved to the Ormond area in 1979 from Red Creek, NY and was a state certified HVAC contractor. He owned his own business for several years before going to work for the Volusia County School Board. He retired in 2007.

Bill and Maggie married in 1961 and recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. Their love for each other was absolutely perfect. He loved to go fishing and hunting with his sons and son in law. He also loved to go to old car shows and was fixing up his dad’s 1929 Model A to take his grandkids in.

Bill was known as “Papa” Bill to most and loved his children, grandchildren, and family. He was a very kind hearted, soft spoken and gentle man. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren doing scouts, building things, traveling, camping, and much more. Bill touched so many lives and will be missed tremendously. Bill was preceded in death by his step-father Arvine Hyatt and brother Charles Mitton Owen. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marguerite “Maggie” (Willis) Owen. In addition he is survived by his children Rita Owen of Holly Hill, Stan and Pursia Owen of Bunnell, FL, Scott and Melissa Owen of Osteen, FL, Mindy and Jon Strawser of Palm Coast. Also left to cherish Bill’s memory are 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 nieces, 1 nephew, 4 great nieces and 1 nephew. The family has asked that donations be made in Bill’s memory to American Diabetes Association.

Visitation will be held Saturday Dec. 27, 2014 from 1:00- 2:00 pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, FL. Funeral services will take place at 2:00pm immediately following the visitation.
