Barbara Jean Grol

August 19, 1960 – September 11, 2026

With broken hearts, our family announces the passing of Barbara “Barb” Jean Grol, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Following a prolonged illness and a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away surrounded by the love of her family on September 11, 2026, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

She will be deeply missed by Casey, her devoted husband of 42 years; her cherished sons, Matthew (Zhe), Michael, and Christopher (Erica); and her treasured grandson, Atlas. She will remain forever in the hearts of her loving sisters, Sue (Greg) and Janie (Dominic), who stood by her throughout her illness. Barb will also be lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Brent) and Gabrielle (the late Conrad); her many nieces and nephews; her extended family; and her dear friends.

Barb was predeceased by her beloved parents, Howard and Kathleen Libby. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with them in heaven and in the presence of her Lord and Saviour.

Barb’s deep love for her family and her Christian faith were at the heart of everything she did. Family always came first, and she treasured the time she spent with those she loved. Her love lives on in her children and grandson, and in the memories held by everyone who knew her.

Though her loss leaves an enormous space in our lives, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace and that she knew how deeply she was loved.

Our family extends heartfelt thanks to the oncology and palliative care teams at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their care and compassion, and to everyone who supported Barb and our family throughout her illness.

In keeping with Barb’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life for family and close friends will be held. There will be no public visitation or service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barb’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
