DONOVAN, Darren Michael It is with profound sadness that the family of Darren announce his peaceful but unexpected passing on Friday, August 3rd, 2018. Darren is survived by his loving wife of 29 years Anne (nee Alyea). He will be missed dearly by his two adoring sons Brendan Michael and Adam David. Beloved son of the late Arthur and Ethel Donovan and cherished son-in-law of Monty and Janice Alyea. Outstanding brother to Charlene, Charles, Daniel and his wife Michelle as well as a fun-loving uncle to Zachary, Ella, Jacob and Ryan. Darren will be fondly remembered by his extended family, many friends and former colleagues. Fletcher will miss Darren’s constant companionship. Darren had many gifts, but he was especially known for his love of playing the piano, his beautiful gardens and his passion for cooking. He loved to travel, particularly to Vegas (“The Cottage”), but most of all Darren enjoyed entertaining his family and friends in the Donovan backyard oasis. He was a selfless man. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Thursday, August 9th, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. In Darren’s memory, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Durham Mental Health Services.

Darren and I worked together on a few years at Scotiabank but in that short time he left a huge and wonderful mark. I loved to hear him talk about his family, vacations and his backyard oasis; so much so, I nick named him "Captain Aruba" :-). He was a ray of sunshine and a happy spirit, which always made working with him a true pleasure. These traits also made him an incredible manager; his ability to focus on people and lead them was a true gift.

I met Darren many years ago while working for Symcor; he was one of my first interactions with a client. He was always so supportive, extremely funny and lit up the room always with his presence. I had not seen him for a couple of years now but hearing this news brings me great sadness for his family and this world to lose such a wonderful person. May his family be ever filled with his memories.

Today we laid to rest a beautiful soul. Darren you were one of a kind in so many different ways, you were talented, passionate, caring and most important you were a gentle soul. We will forever cherish our amazing memories. We are so blessed to have been able to travel to “the cottage” with you in March, and then visit for 3 nights again in April, where you were able to meet Aidan. Being apart of your life was an honour and we cannot wait to tell Aidan the kind of man you were when he’s older. You were an inspiration to all and it’s a shame you were taken away from us, just 49 years young. We will forever hold Anne Brendan & Adam close, they always have been family, and they always will be. Our visits to your home will never stop, and our trips to Las Vegas will always be in your honour. We love you so much Darren, and we miss you like crazy.

“A beautiful life that come to an end, he died as he lived, everyone’s friend”

Until we meet again, our friend ❤️

Day Number One at National walks my new boss singing ABBA's Dancing Queen. I knew at that moment that this man was going to change the way I viewed the working world.

Darren made it a mission to know everyone's name in the building. He knew a little fact about every person. He cared. He sang. He danced. He sat with us when posting needed to be done. He ordered the shots at the bar as fast as we could drink them. He conquered the world.

He....quite simply....was the best.

Anne and family.....I have no words that will diminish the pain you are feeling. I can only hope that you find comfort in your memories. Darren was a man like no other. There will be memories that bring you to tears and envoke laughter. Embrace them all.

"*Any body could be that guy....
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine

You're in the mood for a dance....

And when you get the chance......"

Never stop dancing.

God's speed, my friend.

Darren will always hold a special place in my heart. We worked together for most of my career at Scotia. He always found a way to make the task, the job, the day brighter. He took the time to check in with me when things were tough and his care for others was evident. I have kept with me the "Corky cartoon picture/name plate" he made for me. It has always, and will always remind me of him.

So incredibly shocked to hear about Darren. Darren and I went through primary school together. So many great memories of writing plays and performing them in front of classes and the school. He was a great person and friend. We had so much fun as children. What a huge loss for the world. My deepest sympathies to his entire family.
God Bless

To Darren's family I wish to express my sincere condolences. I took care of his mother Ethel at Fairview, and got to know Darren well. I often think of Ethel and am saddened by the new of Darren. A gentle caring sincere man. Always spent time talking with staff and just adored his mother. They are together again.... So sorry for your loss.

Anne, Brendon and Adam - my deepest sympathy on the sudden loss of your husband, father and friend. I had the pleasure of meeting Darren through our work at Scotiabank with him at the Central of Data Centres and myself in the Atlantic. Wither it be memories associated with our working days, the ‘lobster’ event at your home or our love for music and sending ‘Vegas’ messages, he made it possible for me to have great memories to treasure. He was a very respectful, kind, generous, caring and jovial man. Unfortunately I am unable to attend his service, however, may you find comfort in the trail of wonderful memories he leaves behind as well as knowing that others care.
