David Alexander Brown

David was born in Owen sound, the son of Rita & Alex Brown. He is survived by his wife Carol (Walser-Jeffers), his daughter Janet (Kelvin), son Michael; his grandchildren Elizabeth (Justin), Paul (Taylor), Gabrielle (Marin) and his great-grandchildren Jack & Jacob. He also is Survived by his stepdaughters Kerra (Michel) and Lisa (Blake). He will be deeply missed by his very close cousin Shonnette (Frank) and her Family. He will also be missed by Carol’s family.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Brown.

Dave was a graduate of Walkerton District High School and obtained his undergraduate degrees from Waterloo and Western universities and his master’s degree from the University of Toronto.

He loved teaching, and his career began at Fenelon Falls High School and subsequently Walkerton District High School and Oshawa Central Collegiate. His administrative career began as Vice-Principal at Oshawa Central Collegiate, then Principal at Ajax High School as well as Principal at Uxbridge Secondary School. He then became Superintendent of Schools, Oshawa and retired as Superintendent of Operations, Durham District School Board.

During his High School and university years, he was a gifted athlete and was actively involved in football, basketball, track & field winning many awards. He also loved coaching during his teaching years and was involved as a coach of football, basketball, track & field, baseball, hockey, and golf. He had a great love of horse racing and owned both standard-bred and thoroughbred horses.

He served on numerous boards including the Planning Board in Walkerton, Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation, and Board of Stewards Northminster United Church. He was a long-time member of Oshawa Golf Club and was a Rotarian.

Dave was an avid golfer.

Visitation will be held at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King St. W. Oshawa on Monday July 6 from 9:00 -10:30 am followed by a Celebration of David's Life in the Chapel beginning at 10:30 am.
