Surrounded by his family, Dieter passed away peacefully at home after a brief battle with cancer. Beloved husband of April (Seeley). Dieter, in his 76th year, was predeceased by his brother Siegfried and sister-in-law Frieda (Ebbers). Dear brother to Hans Wunderlich (Julie Martinelli), brother-in-law to Maria Wunderlich, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dear father to Karl (Lucy), Ingrid (Robert Hepner) and Elizabeth (Paul Anderson). Dear grandfather of Thomas, Emily, Sarah, Isabelle, Heidi, Maximilian, Henry and Katarina. Born in Lichtfelde, Kreis Stuhm West Prussia, Germany, Dieter immigrated to Canada with his parents, Helmut and Sigrid, and his two brothers, Hans and Siegfried, in 1952 when he was 11 years old. His family settled in Oshawa. Adapting to his new home, Dieter learned English quickly, always crediting his success to comic books and the movies. Putting himself through post-secondary school at the University of Manitoba, he earned a BA in History and Economics which was followed by a Bachelor of Physical Health Education from the University of Waterloo. He taught Physical Education, History and Economics at Courtice Secondary School. He was a coach of many winning sports teams. Retired after 32 years, Dieter and April spent their time caring for their grandchildren. At the cottage, Dieter enjoyed swimming, walks in the woods and sailing. An avid birder, Dieter raised canaries and was a member of the Durham Avicultural Society. An active member for almost 50 years at Club Loreley, Dieter enjoyed dances and the camaraderie of other members. Dieter was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Oshawa. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18th, 2016 between 6 and 8 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday, December 19th, 2016 at 11am at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME located at 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905 721 1234). In lieu of flowers, the family would be thankful of a donation to a charity of your choice.
