Passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Monday, October 31st 2016 at the age of 77. Devoted husband to Maureen for 55 years. Caring father of Dolores, Eileen (Chris), Anne Marie (Jeff) and Robert (Jackie). Loving Grandpa to Braden (Victoria), Grace and Ben. Cherished brother of Carmel, Robbie (2013), Joan, Liam, Kay, Marie, Angela and Dolores. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife and family, brothers and sisters both in Canada and in Ireland, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Eamon was born in Dublin, Ireland to Lilly and Bob Halpin. He emigrated from Ireland to London, Ontario in 1959 where he met the love of his life Maureen also from Dublin. From his early working days at Northern Electric, his passion for social justice took root and his lifelong commitment to fighting for the rights of workers began. In 1979, Eddie took that passion to the UAW (Unifor) as a national representative where he retired in 1995. Following his career in the labour movement, Eddie remained active. In his retirement years Eamon completed a degree in Political Science from Trent University. Eamon, an avid Glasgow Celtic supporter, will be remembered for his Irish eyes, wit, compassion and for his thirst for knowledge. Eamon will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Monday, November 7th from 6 – 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CHURCH (903 Giffard Street, Whitby) on Tuesday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted to St. Vincent’s Kitchen, Oshawa.
