20 August, 1926 – 21 January, 2022
“Mothers hold their children’s hands for awhile, but their hearts forever.” Our remarkable mother, Elsa (Zara) Monego, passed away peacefully at home Friday, January 21, 2022 at the age of 95. Elsa was a devoted wife to the late Rudy Monego with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Predeceased by her parents (Domenico and Ada Zara) and her brother (Antonio). Proud and loving mother of Carmen Monego (late Roberto Marchetti), Flavia & Franco Palmieri, and Annamaria & Vince Maccarone. She will be sadly missed by her nephews: Aldo, Sandro (Margo), Dennis (Kathy), Andrew (Nicole) and Rob (Michelle); her grandchildren: Lino (Rosa), Giovanna (Vincenzo), Manuela (Pat), Adriano (Amber), Carlo (Amber), Matt (Ingrid), and Adam (Leanne) and her great-grandchildren: Roberto, Michele, Roberto, Vito, Kristian, Alexia, Avery, Elle, Lucas, Hayley, Annika and Vinnie. Elsa immigrated to Canada in 1957 with her husband, 8 year old daughter and 3 year old twins. She was an amazing seamstress and worked from home so that she could also raise her family. Elsa was an avid reader and her teaching skills ensured that all her daughters remained fluent in Italian. She approached any obstacle as a challenge to be overcome. Her strength and resilience remained to the end. She leaves many saddened hearts but a wealth of cherished memories. Our special thanks to Dr. Barrettara and to the nurses (Christina in particular) and PSW’s for their care and support. Resting at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234).
